Jason and the Argonauts - My Version - Part 2
Upon the arrival of the Argo in Colchis, Jason and his companions were confronted by armed guards led by King Aeetes' son, Absyrtus. The prince appeared polite and reasonable, but streetwise Clytius told Jason that his tongue was "too smooth" and that he should not be trusted. Achilles agreed, immediately sensing something about Absyrtus that he did not like. Agreeing to be ready for trouble, but not wanting to appear too hostile, Jason selected them and a small handful of his companions to accompany him into Colchis' streets - most of the crew, including Argos himself, stayed with the ship. Pan, however, was also able to sneak in unnoticed by taking the form of a goat and convincing Castor and Pollux to give him to one of the guards, Magar, as a "peace offering". The Argonauts' caution proved well founded: Aeetes and his family already knew of Jason's arrival and desire for the Golden Fleece, which Princess Medea had foreseen in one of the visions induced by mystic herbs she used.
